XML : Where to add the xml for configuring interceptor

I have a interceptor in my java code. I read in Spring documetation that I should also modify the xml file, but it is not clear what I should name the xml file, where should I save it, and how I should tell the project to inlcude this xml file.

Any help is appreciated.
