searching for text inside open xml

I have the following text inside my open xml document:

[property_case_num]

However, I am unable to detect it because the xml looks like this:

</w:szCs></w:rPr><w:t>property</w:t></w:r><w:proofErr w:type="gramEnd">
</w:proofErr><w:r><w:rPr><w:rFonts w:asciiTheme="majorHAnsi" w:hAnsiTheme="majorHAnsi">   </w:rFonts><w:sz w:val="22"></w:sz><w:szCs w:val="22"></w:szCs></w:rPr><w:t>_case_num]</w:t>

Notice how the word is broken into pieces and surrounded by xml tags. I have to parse many documents too and they may be in different xml tags.

Why is the text broken up like this? Is there a way to make the text appear as one, like it is in the document, so I can discover it.
