XML : change xml element value with button

I'm looking for some weeks on the internet now, but I can't find a solution for this. I have a parser that converts a xml-document to a picture (html5-canvas). Now I need a button with a javascript attached to it to change the value of an xml element. This will change the way the picture looks. Let's say the element: harry potter, changing it to another title.
